Most recently, Olson was co-founder of TTI, an independent oil and gas wildcatter and led financial analysis and back-office operations in addition to working business development in the Texas/Oklahoma corridor. This work included scanning for distressed acquisition targets and valuation estimates of other independent E&P assets.

Olson has had many operating roles in startups and growth companies; including Director of Business Development, VP of Operations, VP of Finance, Product Manager, and Development Manager.

Olson's experience in asset acquisition analysis and asset management both at McKinsey and as an investor include:

• Identifying and acquiring a distribution company as spin-out from larger organization
• Liquidating underutilized capital assets, and focussing assets on most productive uses
• Scanning for acquisition candidates in a group of 6 companies with synergy valuation and strategy workups for a $ multi-billion company resulting in 2 acquisitions
• Shaping the new energy strategy for one of the Majors (Oil Company)
• Structuring joint venture terms for a company alliance
• Structuring and implementing an operational turn-around of a major energy company
• Restructuring the purchasing process of a multi-billion dollar company

Birken received a BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering from New Mexico State University, and a Dual MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
